Coldplay's announcement at last night's Brit Awards that they will be taking
a break has signalled to many the end of the band completely.

Singer Chris Martin announced as the band were accepting their second award
of the night for Best Album that: "This means so much to us, especially now.
It's going to be a few years before you see us again."

He added: "People are fed up with us - and so are we."

Friends and sources are now claiming that Martin is putting the band on hold
to spend more time with his wife Gwyneth Paltrow and their baby Apple. The
couple are expecting another child in April.

The 28-year-old singer apparently later told Brits host Chris Evans: "You
had a break, so are we."

Coldplay landed a record deal in 1999, and have recorded three award-winning
LPs: Parachutes, A Rush of Blood to the Head and 2005's X & Y.

Top Story: Coldplay NOT Splitting Up. Fact

Following Chris Martin’s statement about Coldplay disappearing from
the public eye at the Brits last night, the bands record company have
issued a statement explaining about the band’s future.

They may have won the Best Album and Best Single awards at the Brits
last night (February 15) but Coldplay caused one of the biggest
disturbances of the event when they hinted that they were going to
split off.

"This means so much to us, especially now," singer Chris Martin said
when recieving the award, "It's going to be a few years before you see
us again."

"People are fed up with us - and so are we." He continued, "You won't
see us at one of these for many, many years."

Obviously the tabloid press had a bloody field day, the Daily Mirror
especially, with the paper claiming the band were planning on
splitting up for good.

However, a statement issued to Xfm from Coldplay’s record label
Parlophone has completely denied the story. It reads

"Coldplay are categorically not splitting up. They are on the road
until July, when their 16 month X&Y World Tour ends in Japan. They
will then be having a well deserved rest before working on their
fourth album."

So there you go. Daft really.

In other news, Oasis haven’t split up, Kaiser Chiefs haven’t split up,
Hard Fi haven’t split up, but James Blunt is going solo.

Yea...thanks for the article, its brilliant to hear that they won't be
splitting up, but on the other hand we might have to wait 3-4 years for
another coldplay album.

We should be thankful that their record company isn't obliging them to put
an album out every year, and is prepared to give them the freedom to let
their creative process run at its own pace...

My bet would be that we see something along the lines of what U2 did in
1991. The hid in the grass for three years and basically recorded and
released nothing and came back with a totally reinvented sound and look. I
can see Coldplay doing something like this, although I can't see them
pulling off an album like Achtung Baby. Either way, my bet is they will be
back in 3 years and sound totally, totally different.
